MR. DEJI HAMZAT– DIRECTOR ,RECORDS
Mr Deji Hamzat was born on 26th June, 1974 in Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. He had his primary education at D. C. School, Anarun, Iwo and secondary education at Baptist High School and Anwar-Ul-Islam Grammar School, both in Iwo. He graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Sociology from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, in 2001 and 2005 respectively. In order to enhance his capability and competencies for his job as an Archivist, he went back to school and obtained a Master’s degree in Archives, Records and Information Management in 2020.
Mr. Hamzat started his journey in the world of work when he joined the Aiico Insurance Plc as a Sales Representative in 2005 and was there until July 2007 when he given appointment as Personal Assistant to the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Lagos State Governor. He subsequently joined the mainstream of the Lagos State Civil Service in October, 2008, as a Senior Archivist in the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB). As a result of his professional astuteness and dedication, he was appointed as the Coordinator for Records and Archives at the Bureau in August, 2011 with the responsibility for general coordination of departmental operations. In September 2015, he was appointed as the Head of Records Management of the Bureau and later in September, 2021 upon restructuring of the extant operational Records and Archives Department, was appointed as the Director of Records thereby heading the newly created Records Department with responsibility for developing capacities of Records Officers and overseeing effective management of records in the State Public Service.
Mr. Hamzat was a member of the Secretariat to the Committee that drafted the Lagos State Records and Archives Management Policy in 2010. He served as a Research Assistant to the Lagos State History Project Committee between 2013 and 2014. He was a member of the State Archives Survey Delegation to Brazil in 2013. He is a certified Management Trainer by the Centre for Management Development (CMD) and a Professional Member of the RIMA Foundation Knowledge Network and Senior Professional Member of the Institute of Information Management – Africa (IIM).
Mr. Deji Hamzat is a recipient of the Lagos State Outstanding Officer Award – Senior Category, in 2017. He passionately loves reading, teaching, playing table tennis, and travelling to places for sightseeing.
